There is a new system for obtaining a green card through employment. It is called PERM. The first step is to obtain the approval of the Department of Labor. The second step is to obtain the approval of Immigraiton. Click on the links to the left for more details.
The Department of Labor is concerned with protecting U.S. workers in two respects :

- Whether there are insufficient U.S. workers for the job position, and
- Whether the wage to be paid is the prevailing wage in the industry.
The Immigration is mainly concerned with:

- Examining the qualifications of the employer in terms of:
- The ability to pay the employee's wage, and
- The need for the employee,
- Examining the qualifications of the employee in terms of:
- Qualifications for the job
- Having a history that would make the employee ineligible for a green card
