Eb-1 is an application for a green card. EB-1 has three categories. If you qualify under one of the three categories you can apply for a green card without obtaining a labor certificate from the Department of Labor. The categories are:

1. Extraordinary ability in the sciences, arts, education, business or athletics. One big advantage of this category is you do not need an employer. You can sponsor yourself. However qualifying is not easy. You must show extensive documentation of achievements including sustained national or international acclaim.

2. Outstanding professors or researchers

3.Managers and executives subject to international transfer to the U.S. This category is similar to L-1 except the Immigration seems to have a higher standard for green card. This is a good category for mid to large businesses but small businesses usually have a difficult time. The beneficiary either must be the manager of other managers or the beneficiary must be the manager of professionals.

The big advantage is you can avoid the Department of Labor which means you will save time and expenses. Also under certain circumstances you can sponsor yourself.

You have to apply to the Immigration in the USA seeking approval for this category. You must include extensive supporting documentation.
